Visit to Wolli Creek Regional Park (28 August 2025)

landgrant boundaries along walk

Thursday 28 August 2025 was a beautiful day for walk.

According to Wikipedia this is the land of the Bidgigal and it was the end of their festival that Cook encountered late in April 1770 at Sting Ray Bay which Banks renamed Botany Bay.

Turrella Reserve is at 2a Banks Road and there is a Bidjigal Road in Arncliff nearby.

"Tempe station opened on 15 October 1884 on the same date as of the Illawarra line from Redfern to Hurstville with two side platforms. It was referred to during the planning stages as Cooks River railway station, but opened under the Tempe name." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempe_railway_station

"Council Officers noted in the report that the Marrickville South area is the last major area in the LGA in which we do not have a modern flood study. Council Officers advised they have applied for a grant with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water to undertake that study between this year and next year. It was noted Council are currently waiting on confirmation of that grant which usually comes in October." - https://innerwest.infocouncil.biz/Open/2025/02/FMACC_26022025_AGN_4207_AT_WEB.htm (viewed sep , 2025)

There may well have been a fish trap where there is now a bridge and concrete channel for the river to flow through. Chickenwire reinforced concrete, plastic waste lies on the river. Perhaps a Cockspur coral tree (Erythrina crista-galli) hangs over the waterway. Cockspur coral tree a deciduous shrub tree with red flowers. It is native to South America and a weed of waterways and floodplains, particularly in coastal areas in NSW. (https://weeds.dpi.nsw.gov.au/Weeds/CockspurCoralTree viewed 12 Sep 2025 at 13.49)
