Rozelle Railyards Parklands

Feb 2024 Letterbox drop

EPA Updates:  "EPA investigation into asbestos in mulch

We are currently investigating the discovery of non-friable, or bonded, asbestos in mulch at the Rozelle Parklands and other Transport for NSW infrastructure project sites.

We are committing significant resources to establishing how the contaminated material found its way to Rozelle Parklands and the other sites.

This is a complex process involving multiple lines of enquiry, including the mulch supply chain and the potential presence of legacy asbestos at these sites."

7am Wednesday, December 20, 2023

Walked a bit of the parklands this morning around 7am Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Across both the landbridge from the light rail station and down the spiral to brennan street.

Gordon St connected Annandale to Rozelle, before the railyards and the parklands do again.

The gaping mouth of the Interchange didn't seem to be open to traffic.

The reason the cyclelanes on the path change side seems to be at intersections, where there are signs for cyclists to give way to pedestrians.

There were a few cyclists, joggers, walkers and dogs around this morning.

The cyclelanes on the path change side, possibly at intersections.  There are signs for cyclists to give way to pedestrians and some associated path markings.

The shared zone at the entrance to the parklands from the landbridge is marked as shared but the shared part on the bridge is unmarked.

The garden beds on the Landbridge are poorly designed and the mulch is draining away onto the seats.

I suspect not enough thought was put in and the "footpaths" or cycleways as there are no markings on the narower paths.are unmarked. Where there are markings a good point is the pedestrians are marked facing the oncoming cyclists. \

It would be good for Transport for NSW to put some action behind their strategy for Future Transport - should look out for this in budgets. https://www.future.transport.nsw.gov.au/

City of Sydney is probably best placed to take the lead.

It was cool and damp this morning but until the trees grow the parklands are going to be quite unbearable while the sun is up, over the next few months. It was cool and damp this morning but until the trees grow the parklands are going to be quite unbearable while the sun is up, over the next few months.

  • There seemed to be a lack of Drinking Water alon the paths
  • Are there Power Points for Food Trucks for Events
  • There are quite a few fences but a problem with the one at Wetland has already been pointed out.
  • The Smoke Stacks are a part of the parkland and look like they could do with more green walls and less tiling.
  • The parklands will be pleasant on Summer evenings and the paths would need Lighting

Other things to check out and may stunt or prohibit the growth of plants on the site

  • Soil Quality
  • Water Quality
  • Air Quality
