The domestic waste charge on your rates notice pays the waste levy - the idea is to get stuff out of the RED (landfill) bin and into the circular economy.

Getting "Organic" Matter out of Landfill will reduce the creation of Methane (CH4) carbon emissions. 

Inner West FOGO Food Recycling Monthly Update - Council Agenda 21 Nov 2023

In the first 5 months of the FOGO service (October to February inclusive 2023/24), compared to the same period in 2022/23;

·    Garbage tonnage has reduced by 3,924 tonnes

·    FOGO (Garden and FOO previously) tonnage has increased by 4,164 tonnes.

This suggests a transfer of approximately 4,000 tonnes of food from garbage to FOGO over the first five months of FOGO.

As is demonstrated on the graph below, FOGO tonnage is increasing at a greater rate than garbage disposal, compared to the same months last financial year. Overview of Greenhouse Gases 

"Methane (CH4): Methane is emitted during the production and transport of coal, natural gas, and oil. Methane emissions also result from livestock and other agricultural practices, land use, and by the decay of organic waste in municipal solid waste landfills."

The council 24/5 budget just exhibited and to be adopted at the next (June 25) council meeting has an increase in the domestic waste charge.

  •     Small garbage bin (less than 120 litres): $377.00 p.a.>$397.50
  •     Standard garbage bin (120 litres): $502.00 p.a.> $530.00
  •     Large garbage bin (240 litres): $753.00 p.a.>$795.00
  •     Vacant/availability: $251.00 p.a.>$265.00


The aim is to send as little as possible to Landfill.

The aim will only be me if the stick finds its mark on the producer of waste.

Checked out White's Creek Catchment in the rain with a few long time residents including an 82 year old who was born at the Private Hospital where the Leichhardt Bolo is and moved to where she lives now when she was 1. She has seen a few changes and people come and go.    Ferris Lane looked fabulous!    The new lintel in Ferris Street seemed to be working well - residents have worked with council to make this happen along with cleaning out nearby drains and gutters.   Evan Jones Playground had a tree down. And a few other trees need mulching.

Len and Dilys Williams and the Hunter Baillie Presbyterian Church

The Rev. Leonard Mervyn Williams and his wife Dilys came to the Hunter Baillie in 1956. The church was in decline and the threat of falling masonry had made it impossible to obtain public liability insurance. (p39, Hunter Baillie ) Dilys conducted alternate services at Leichhardt and Hunter Baillie Presbyterian churches with her husband and was inducted, in 1969, as the first woman Elder in NSW. (p41, Hunter Baillie ). Ferguson Library Archivist mentioned in her talk at the church on 4 September 2010, that Dilys Williams in the 1930s had applied to the Presbyterian Church of Australia General Assembly to be Accepted as a candidate for the Ministry. Her application was "laid on the table" and was never dealt with. The stained glass window on the northern side of the church was restored in memory of the Williams' time at the church.
