The domestic waste charge on your rates notice pays the waste levy - the idea is to get stuff out of the RED (landfill) bin and into the circular economy.
Getting "Organic" Matter out of Landfill will reduce the creation of Methane (CH4) carbon emissions.

In the first 5 months of the FOGO service (October to February inclusive 2023/24), compared to the same period in 2022/23; · Garbage tonnage has reduced by 3,924 tonnes · FOGO (Garden and FOO previously) tonnage has increased by 4,164 tonnes. This suggests a transfer of approximately 4,000 tonnes of food from garbage to FOGO over the first five months of FOGO. As is demonstrated on the graph below, FOGO tonnage is increasing at a greater rate than garbage disposal, compared to the same months last financial year. The council 24/5 budget just exhibited and to be adopted at the next (June 25) council meeting has an increase in the domestic waste charge.

- Small garbage bin (less than 120 litres): $377.00 p.a.>$397.50
- Standard garbage bin (120 litres): $502.00 p.a.> $530.00
- Large garbage bin (240 litres): $753.00 p.a.>$795.00
- Vacant/availability: $251.00 p.a.>$265.00
The aim is to send as little as possible to Landfill.
The aim will only be me if the stick finds its mark on the producer of waste.
